Aside from the obvious bad aroma of Republicans arguing about whether black folks should be allowed to vote in their primaries, the question does arise: does Cochran’s victory set any sort of precedent, or represent a victory for broad-minded Republicans as against the ideologues?
I asked myself that question, and the more I thought about it, Mississippi is just sui generis, as are Thad Cochran and the state’s political parties. Or that’s what I concluded in my TPMCafe column late last night. Check it out.
