July 03, 2014 5:44 PM Day’s End and Holiday Watch

By Ed Kilgore

It’s good to be home. Tomorrow we’ll be on a Major Holiday Ultra-Lite Blogging schedule, unless big news happens.

Here are some remains of the day:

* At the Daily Beast, Sally Kohn notes that conservative happiness over Hobby Lobby is all too often descending into the habitual slut-shaming of women who use contraceptives.

* David Brooks looks forward to another decade at the New York Times.

* TNR’s Noam Scheiber thinks HRC will find ways to focus on plight of poor and middle-class Americans without dwelling much on the power of the super-rich.

* At Ten Miles Square, Jonathan Bernstein suggests better economic news won’t matter in November unless Obama’s approval rating rises significantly.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer compares lists of colleges charging highest tuitions with colleges actually costing most to average students.

And in non-political news:

* June jobs report helps push Dow past 17k mark.

That’s it for this pre-holiday Thursday. Let’s close with Crosby, Stills and Nash performing “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” in 2012, a very long time after its debut.
