Today is a secular holiday for right-wingers: it’s the 30th anniversary of the release of the John Milius propaganda film Red Dawn.
I saw the film in 2007 and thought it was cheesier than Domino’s; I can understand why the Sean Hannitys of the world would love it, but I couldn’t understand why more intelligent conservatives would embrace this lousy film. It was the number-one film at the box office during it’s first weekend of release, which can be attributed either to very good marketing or the extent to which certain Americans loved anything with a Reaganesque flavor at the time.
In any event, if you hear anyone shout “Wolverines!” today, it has nothing to do with the X-Men.
