Rep. Steve Pearce (R-N.M.) spoke this week to the Western Republican Conference in Nevada, and argued that environmentalists are crazy. This was his pitch:
“We got kooks running Washington, basically. Kooks are in charge of our government. You all can recognize a kook, but the media seems to not understand. Around two years ago, some guy in New Mexico claimed he was the messiah. And the press couldn’t figure it out. I’m sorry, but the answer to that is real simple. You take them five miles off the coast and let ‘em out. If he walks home, you think about it. If he sinks to the bottom, then he probably wasn’t the messiah. But we’ve got people like that in Washington running our agencies.
“People are declaring that we descended from apes. Now, I know that’s not true. The argument that we descended from sheep is still an open question. But the ape idea is completely out of line.”
I’d note for context that Pearce, a Birther and a Sarah Palin ally, was elected by the people of New Mexico’s 2nd district to help write federal laws.

It does seem hard to believe that something so stupid could have descended from a relatively intelligent primate like an ape.
Just another fascinating surprise from the world of Science!

And therein lies the actual problem with our country: the people who 'elect' such creatures as this. Creatures like this are simply a symptom of a cause, and that cause is the nature of the population itself that elects such creatures.
This particular was, by the way, descended from oozing slime emanating from Lucifer's asshole.

There must be something strange in the USAF for promoting C-130 pilots to Captain. Perry and Pearce. BTW, Pearce was an ardent foe of helping children receive medical care as he attacked federal aid, the first time he was a US Rep.
LL on October 23, 2011 10:43 AM:
Remember, GOP voters love to piss off people more than anything else on earth. So Pearce pisses off normal people. Perfect.
GOP voters are profoundly irresponsible children. The kind of children who throw their shit around when they don't get whatever it is they want at that moment. Pearce is an example of shit-throwing.

Hey, fifty percent of Americans would agree with Pearce on the ape thing.
Actually, the idea that humans are descended from apes is an insult to apes, as well as any other animal.
No other species on the planet lies, cheats, steals, murders for no purpose, and fouls its own next with such enthusiasm as the failed evolutionary experiment in biological intelligence that can foresee the results of its actions and modify its behavior accordingly.
Thank goodness, with the way we've accelerated our fucking-up, humans will be extinct in a century (good riddance) and all visual evidence of our ever having been here will be gone in another century, and the planet can get back to trying again.
Sadly, during the 100 years of increasing fuckups we have left, we'll be taking a lot of the life of the planet out with us. Hopefully there will be enough left to start over.
Pearce - and those stupid enough to vote for him - are the perfect example of what I'm talking about.
As Mencken said, "In this world of pain and sorrow, there is much to be thankful for; as for me, I am thankful I am not a Republican." And I'll add "I am thankful I won't be around to watch all this crap go down."

Yeah, that's why it's called the Hair Farce. The USAF is proof that airplanes are not difficult - if they were, nobody in the Hair Farce could operate one. The most technological of the services, run by people who think airplanes fly because angels hold up the wings.
The USAF continues to live on the reputation created 70 years ago by the citizen legions of the Old Republic (as does the Army). Today's Imperial Luftwaffe can't even design airplanes that work the way they're supposed to. Why be surprised that idiots like Perry and Pearce are what you get out of that system? When I consider the two idiots I grew up with who went on to become career AF, all is explained.

We Had Hoped Redistricting Would Help
(with consolations to Consuelo)
Had the Las Cruces Democrats prevailed, the 2nd Congressional district would be less strongly Republican - and the 3rd up north would be just a little less Democratic. There's currently no telling how Judge Hall will be redrawing the districts, but the smart money is on "minimal change."
A reason that Pearce sounds so wingnutty is that his district is the closest to Texas, and basically part of it. One of the cooler redistricting concept maps had him getting not only the south of the state but the whole east side up to the Colorado border, too.
All of it right next to Texas, of course.

True. But on the flip side, there is a veritable goldmine of votes to be harvested out there in the "real" America. It's sad that Democrats don't tap that resource, preferring to forfeit wide swaths of it over to Limbaughland. Scared white dumb people are just too large a voting block to write off.
Democrats need to create a middle-America brand. Something along the lines of "limited government Democrats" that want government out of the lives of the average Bubba and Billy-Bob, but in the lives of the Wall Streeters Clarence and Herman. Oh, and an A.M radio jock that spends all day demonizing rich elites and their in-the-pocket politicians. What the party doesn't need are social liberals that vote the corporate line every time a' la Ben Nelson.

Maybe someone should point out to his constituents that Pearce has proved that Jesus wasn't the Messiah. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear that.

You have to admit that Pearce's "messiah test" is a lot more humanitarian than the "witch test" as it had been applied in the past. We tie you to a stool and "duck" you. I'm so pleased to note that Pearce cannot believe his good fortune: he's a vet (thanks for your service), he's a Repub (why?), he got elected by catering to intellectual dullards voting, and has spent a fortune trying to communicate with uninformed Democrats (his staff cannot read, either) in New Mexico. If he only works to publicly "denounce", he should not enjoy the epithet (Representative) as a "Steward of the people". Working for the good of common agreement means to have the sense it takes to compromise in order to arrive at resolution! Ah, the pendejo always survives, I guess!
