November 16, 2012 11:44 AM McCain Jumps the Shark

By Mark Kleiman

It appears that even some media outlets are getting tired of John McCain’s shtick. His decision to skip a classified Senate Intelligence Committee briefing about what happened in Benghazi in order to hold a press conference demanding a Watergate-style special committee to investigate what happened in Benghazi was a bridge too far.

Most of McCain’s Republican colleagues also played hooky. As Andrew Sullivan Tweeted, “Why seek answers when you already know them from Fox conspiracy dept?”

McCain & Co. are ghouls, feeding on the bodies of the dead. Decent people should cross the street to avoid encountering any of them.

Yes, we all know that you Republicans hate the fact that Obama is not running the sort of crooked, scandal-ridden administration that Bush II, Reagan, and Nixon ran. But he isn’t. Deal with it.

Didn't McCain already make this jump when he decided on Palin back in 2008? Or was that a case of his lower half getting eaten by the shark?

Actually, scratch all that. That was a shark (admittedly one that'd already lost most of its teeth) simply letting a remora do its natural thing.

How long is the Bengazi thing going to bleed on? The whole scam that Rice either said it was just a demonstration, or that her actually more developed description deviated from the CIA briefing, is false:
Kos on Grumpy McBlame versus Susan Rice (not to be confused with Condi Rice who told us falsely that Iraqi WMDs including perhaps nuclear were a danger warranting a very costly and bungled war)

    ----------------------------------------------------
    Here's what Rice said:
    ----------------------------------------------------
...we'll want to see the results of that investigation to draw any definitive conclusions. But based on the best information we have to date, what our assessment is as of the present is in fact what began spontaneously in Benghazi as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in Cairo where, of course, as you know, there was a violent protest outside of our embassy—

    BOB SCHIEFFER: Mm-Hm.

SUSAN RICE: —sparked by this hateful video. But soon after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in that—in that effort with heavy weapons of the sort that are, unfortunately, readily now available in Libya post-revolution. And that it spun from there into something much, much more violent.
    ----------------------------------------------------
And here's what the CIA's talking points for Rice said:
    ----------------------------------------------------
"The currently available information suggests that the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the US Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault against the US diplomatic post in Benghazi and subsequently its annex. There are indications that extremists participated in the violent demonstrations.
    ----------------------------------------------------
    Kinda similar, no?

    End quote.

Furthermore, after a prolonged and wide-spread civil war, many RPGs etc *were* or at least easily could be in the hands of various young men, undisbanded militias etc. just as Rice implied, altho McCain et al act like that is such a preposterous notion. Finally, with multiple motivations going on, we can easily imagine some participants being on the fence, maybe toying with a 9/11 attack but finding the abhorrent video to be the last straw. Which reminds me, there should be more investigation of *that* very suspicious piece of snot.
